FFBC #4- Not a Drop to Drink with (INT) Giveaway

Hey Guys! Sorry I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks. I had a really nasty cold, my mom had surgery and I had my term finals! But I am hoping to be back for regular reviews and giveaways!

September is a special month for me, since It is my b-day month! So I am happy to tell you guys, that we will be having 3 GIVEAWAYS THIS MONTH!  The 1st one is for the Spanish Tour of Not a Drop to Drink! My fellow FFBC co-hosts, were contacted by Mindy to organize the Spanish leg of her tour. And I was happy enough to help out! :)

So now that you are as excited as we are to start this tour, with special contents like interviews, dream casts, excerpts, favorite quotes and, of course, reviews, we wanted to thank Mindy McGinnis for everything she did for us and for this event. She's just an incredible person and an amazing author. And we thought you needed to meet her and that's why we have an exclusive interview with her!
You know what we do now, right? We celebrate, so...

Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.

I'm a YA librarian and author, represented by Adriann Ranta of Wolf Literary. My YA debut, NOT A DROP TO DRINK, is a survival tale set in a world with limited fresh water. It will be available from Katherine Tegen / Harper Collins, September 24, 2013.

I'm an avid blogger, posting six days a week to my personal blog, Writer, Writer Pants on Fire, which features interviews with agents, established authors, and debut authors. Learn how they landed their agents, what the submission process is really like, and how it feels when you see your cover for the first time. I also do query critiques every Saturday on the Saturday Slash for those who are brave enough to volunteer.

I also contribute to the group blogs From the Write Angle, Book Pregnant, Friday the Thirteeners, The Lucky 13s, The League of Extraordinary Writers and am a member of the Class of 2k13.

Not sure... I will say there are certain books I can read over and over again, like THE STAND by Stephen King and OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon.

Anytime it just flows :)

I don't watch a lot of TV, something has to be just about perfect to get my attention.

Same story. Although, I will say again there are certain things I can watch over and over, like The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Sleeping in without guilt, having coffee while cruising the internet, working outside in warm weather with no humidity. Coming inside at dark to read or write.

Totally depends on my mood. I like everything from bluegrass to metal.

I could eat a chesseburger everyday.

Jamie Fraser. I need him to be real.

Mythology. It's so deadly.

Again, depends on my mood. I'll read George RR Martin, I'll read crime fiction, I'll read YA, I'll read non-fiction.

We do not know the worth of water, until the well is dry - Thomas Fuller.

Read to escape, but make sure you're paying attention to reality as well. It's easy to lose track of what's important in real life when a fictional one is so comfortable.

It wasn't very hard. I watched a documentary called Blue Gold, which is about a projected freshwater shortage on our planet. That night I dreamt about teaching a young child how to operate a rifle in order to protect our water source, and when I woke up I knew I had a novel. The setting is very personal to me, as it's pretty much my own backyard. To see a Pinterest board of the environment that helped shape the book, click here: NOT A DROP TO DRINK ENVIRONMENT

Again, not really. I had the image of this little girl who was taught at a very young age to kill in order to survive. I just had to imagine what this child would grow into, and the answer I got was Lynn. The difficulty wasn't so much in creating her as in remolding her. She didn't WANT to soften up, and it took a few edits to make her understand she had to.

That you owned the only water supply in miles and miles? It's impossible to say what anyone would do in a survival situation. A lot of us would like to think we'd be all badass, some of would like to think we'd be completely humanitarian. In the end, we're all very primitive animals that want to survive, and I think any of us would do just about anything in order to stay alive.

Not really - I'm heartless. Honestly though, it's my one criticism of Tolkien. The Fellowship goes through horrific experiences and come out of some really tight, violent spots. But Boromir is the only one that dies? Really?? I like my fiction one step away from non-fiction. The world is a harsh place. Don't be afraid to paint it that way.

She's a product of her environment, molded from a young age to be practically feral. Her mother is the only person she's ever spoken to in her life, so she's been shaped entirely by the belief system of one person... someone whose primary goal is to watch out for herself and her child. Lynn's been raised to view their pond as worth killing for, and she'll keep doing it until she finds a rational alternative.

  3. Hmm .. Tell you about myself? So, I'm Alyssa and I am the biggest procrastinator you'll ever encounter. I love to read books and daydream on my spare time. My favorite books are The Host by Stephenie Meyer, Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter, Lux series by JLA and Divergent by Veronica Roth. My ideal fictional guy would be Zachary Goode from the Gallagher Girls series. And my favorite TV show is Once Upon a Time. :)

P.S. I am so looking forward reading this book! :)
