SYNOPSIS: ‘James Wentworth has a secret. He lives quietly in Salem, Massachusetts, making few ties with anyone. One night his private world is turned upside down when he meets Sarah Alexander, a dead ringer for his wife, Elizabeth. Though it has been years since Elizabeth's death, James cannot move on. Sarah also has a secret. She is haunted by nightmares about the Salem Witch Trials, and every night she is awakened by visions of hangings, being arrested, and dying in jail. Despite the obstacles of their secrets, James and Sarah fall in love. As James comes to terms with his feelings for Sarah, he must dodge accusations from a reporter desperate to prove that James is not who, or what, he seems to be. Soon James and Sarah piece their stories together and discover a mystery that may bind them in ways they never imagined. Do vampires and witches live in Salem? Will James make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Sarah and prevent a new hunt from bringing hysteria to Salem again? Part historical fiction, part romance, part paranormal fantasy, Her Dear and Loving Husband is a story for anyone who believes that true love never dies.

My Review:

I was very intrigued when I read that this book was a mixture of Historical fiction and Paranormal Fantasy. I have read a few other books that attempted to intertwine these 2 genres and I had loved them. So I was very eager to see how this story would turn out. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the author also was able to blend these genres beautifully

I won't make an attempt to recap this book, because I believe the above synopsis captures the overall plot of the book well.  What I am hoping to get across is just how beautiful this story was. It was so different than other books about Vampires falling in love with humans. I had actually stopped reading Vampire books a long time ago because of how repetitive the story lines had gotten and how similar the over all plots were. But this one was unlike other Vampire books I had ever read before.

As a history buff I loved the historical aspects to this book. I loved reading about James' past and this love letters we wrote to his deceased wife. But one of my favorite aspects about this book was Elizabeth's nightmares. They were so intense and spooky and at times even scary. Each one gets more and more intense and had me flipping the pages dying to see what happened next!

As much as I loved reading about James' and Elizabeth's story apart. I enjoyed reading about their story together and their journey to finding love even more! I was a little caught off guard by the ending, but am anxious to get into the rest of this trilogy!

Book Description:
Emilia King is entering her senior year at Santa Barbara University. For the past three years, she lived in the library – doing what she knows best – focusing on her studies and forgetting her past…a past that has forever changed her life. But this year marks a new beginning…

Logan Prescott is not only the hottest guy on campus, he’s heir to a billionaire hotel fortune. Emilia knows he’s trouble and should stay clear of him. But his notorious good looks and piercing blue eyes make him simply irresistible – especially when he’s quoting her favorite literary works.

Intrigued by Emilia’s innocence and resistance to his charm, Logan discovers she’s a challenge he simply can’t resist. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but running from him may be impossible.

My Review:

I have to admit that I was kind of worried when I first picked up this book. The beginning reminded me too much of other books that I was worried that that I would find no originality. But I will have to say about 75 pages in I knew my initial response was wrong and I ended up really enjoying this book.

College senior Emilia King is ready for the last year of college. But she made a promise to herself and to her best friend that she would spend some time actually enjoying her senior year and less time in the library. She fulfills her promise with many nights out and when she meets Logan Prescott. Initially Emilia does not want anything to do with Logan. Having kept her heart guarded her entire life, the last thing she is willing to do is open it up to a known play boy. But thanks to Logan's persistence Emilia, finally decides to give things a shot with Logan. And of course they both have things in their past to that they have to overcome and obstacles that they have to overcome. But all in all it was a beautiful story!

What I really enjoyed about this book was the character of Logan. I know many of you are thinking this sounds like a cliche story: Rich guy meets average girl.He woos her and they fall in love. Yes some aspects of that are true, but what I really liked about Logan was how he won over Emilia. He didn't buy her a fancy car or take her on a helicopter ride to go have dinner. It was the simple things that any average guy can do to win over a girl. He took her to dinner, stopped by her work, packed her a brown bagged lunch. These were things that made me appreciate this story and enjoy it more than I probably would have. I was first worried about the book being over 500 pages, but in the end the story was so intriguing and interesting that I did not want to see it end! I am curious to see what the author is going to do with book 2!

Keeping Her By Cora Carmack- Review and Giveaway!

Title: Keeping Her
Series: Losing It Novella
Author: Cara Carmack
Pages: 100
Published: 08.13.13
Acquired: Edwelweiss
Goodreads Rating: 4.04
My Rating: 4.0

Hey Guys! I am honored to be a part of the Release Day Launch for
"Keeping Her" by Cara Cormack.
Like many of you, after reading "Losing it," I was dying to read more about Bliss and Garrick, and was thrilled to hear about this novella.

Cora Carmack is planning to donate 20% of all her royalties from this book to the charity Planting Peace for the life of the book. You can find out more about Planting Peace here:  http://www.plantingpeace.org/. Planting Peace is a progressive nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of spreading peace in a hurting world. Although the organization operates on a global level, they emphasize the power of one; the ability that each person possesses to make a difference in the world.

Here is the Synopsis:
Garrick Taylor and Bliss Edwards managed to find their happily-ever-after despite a rather . . . ahem . . . complicated start. By comparison, meeting the parents should be an absolute breeze, right?
But from the moment the pair lands in London, new snags just keep cropping up: a disapproving mother-in-law-to-be, more than one (mostly) minor mishap, and the realization that perhaps they aren't quite as ready for their future as they thought.
As it turns out, the only thing harder than finding love is keeping it.
Mini Review:
I thought that this was a very cute short story regarding two characters I was desperate to read more about. Parts had me laughing out loud. Other parts had we saying "AWWW' and then there parts that were just the right amount of steamy.

I really enjoyed that this story is told in post Bliss and Garrick's Point of views. I really loved reading about how they both describe each other. Since the last book was in only Bliss's point of view, it was nice to read about how Garrick felt about Bliss.I really do hope we get to read more about them in the future!
About the Author:

What if Rapunzel was Snow White’s evil stepmother? From the author of Godmother and Mermaid, The Fairest of Them All explores what happens when fairy tale heroines grow up and don’t live happily ever after.

Living in an enchanted forest, Rapunzel spends her days tending a mystical garden with her adoptive mother, Mathena. A witch, Mathena was banished from court because of her magic powers, though the women from the kingdom still seek her advice and herbal remedies. She waits, biding her time to exact revenge against those who betrayed her.

One day Rapunzel’s beautiful voice and long golden locks captivate a young prince hunting in the forest nearby. Overcome, he climbs her hair up to her chamber and they fall into each other’s arms. But their afternoon of passion is fleeting, and the prince must return to his kingdom, as he is betrothed to another.

Now king, he marries his intended to bring peace to his kingdom. They have a stunning daughter named Snow White. Yet the king is haunted by his memories of Rapunzel, and after the mysterious death of his wife, realizes he is free to marry the woman he never stopped longing for. In hopes of also replacing the mother of his beloved daughter, the king makes Rapunzel his queen.

But when Mathena’s wedding gift of an ancient mirror begins speaking to her, Rapunzel falls under its evil spell, and the king begins to realize that Rapunzel is not the beautiful, kind woman he dreamed of.

Just to keep reading, and to share your love of reading as much as possible, especially with the children in your life!

I was inspired when I looked at all my favorite fairy tales and realized that all the beautiful, damaged young princesses and all those evil queens, stepmothers and witches were essentially the same women. So I started shuffling around the stories and liked the idea of Rapunzel growing up to be Snow White’s stepmother. I also like looking at the stories of the non-heroine characters in popular fairy tales: the godmother in Cinderella, the princess (the mermaid’s rival) in The Little Mermaid, and now Snow White’s stepmother.

I picked Rapunzel because her story moves to well into the story of the evil queen from Snow White. She’s raised by a witch in a tower—and so has to be a witch herself, unless she spent all those years learning nothing from her surroundings..! She’s incredibly beautiful and admired far and wide for that beauty, and nothing else—and so might not react too well when she gets older and someone like Snow White starts getting all the attention. And plus I like all those gorgeous details: the hair, the woods, that tower, witches. I liked the idea of Rapunzel emerging from that tower and becoming a powerful queen—with some anger issues.

I like Rapunzel, and I also like her adoptive mother Mathena, who’s a pretty complicated character (not nice) but is full of rage and passion and magic. I also like the character of Gilles, the king’s falconer, who plays the huntsman role in my book. I tried to make him a romantic figure—swoony and brooding, the Heathcliff type who actually loves you way more than the charming prince does.

I think the evil queens are much more interesting than the sweet princesses dreaming of their prince charmings! And I’m interested in looking at the psychology of these tales and what might happen to real, feeling women in these positions. I’m not sure that Rapunzel has much choice but to become a queen with some anger issues, when it comes down to it. If you’re a woman in a fairy tale—with no real power, valued only for how beautiful and sweet you are—you really should be pissed off!
