Marie Lu Book Signing - ***GIVEAWAY #1 - SIGNED COPY OF PRODIGY***

Hey Everyone! Thank you for stopping by! I just came back from attending an amazing book signing at Vroman's bookstore in Pasadena. I had the great privilege of meeting Marie Lu, the author of The Legend series, which I have to say has been one of my favorites of the last couple of years! So when I found out that Marie was going to be coming to a bookstore near me I just had to go out and see her. And I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate my new blog, by giving away a signed copy of Prodigy! If you haven't read this series already you must!!!

So here are the Rules: 1) Subscribe to my page! 2) And since I want to get to now some of my fellow book lovers, I want you to leave a comment on my this post and let me know what your favorite book is and why. I will pick my favorite response and they will be the winner of the book! Sorry to any international followers, but this will be US only this time! Deadline for the giveaway will be Friday, March 29th at 11:59 pm
Update: This giveaway is now closed! Winner will be announced by Monday, April 1st. (And no it will not be an April fools joke!)

My Thoughts on the Signing: This is the first signing I had been able to attend in a while due to my school schedule so I was very excited it was on a Thursday and I was able to attend. Unfortunately for some reason there was not as big of a turn out as I was expecting. I think it may have to do with the fact that Cassie Claire and Lily Collins, the actress who will be portraying Clary were at the Grove in LA doing a signing for Clockwork Princess. But regardless, Marie was very grateful for everyone who showed up. She explained a little bit about herself and told us how she became a writer. I was really interested to know that she had written 4 completed manuscripts before she able to get one sold. As a budding writer I was impressed how she was able to keep writing and not get discouraged. She also spoke a little about the last book in the trilogy. It will be titled The Champion, and is currently in it's first set of revisions. If it is completed in time we might see a Fall 2013 release. So let's all keep our fingers crossed! I personally cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Okay guys, that's it for now! I have another book signing that I will be attending next week. It's for Romeo Redeemed, the sequel to Juliet Immortal. And depending on how well this giveaway turns out I may consider getting a copy of that for a second giveaway! Thank you all for reading and look forward to chatting with all of you very soon!

  5. I couldn't find where to subscribe. I am following via GFC. My favorite book/series is Contingency (Sage Hannigan Time Warper book 1) by Peggy Martinez. I am currently finishing up book 2 and I love this series. Sage is a strong female character who warps through time. I love that she travels back in time and is supposed to stop an event from happening so that the preteranatural community can continue to be safe from exposure. Laugh out loud humor, handsome leading men and add a strong kick butt female lead character. I love everything about this book and series!!!

  6. My favourite book at the moment, is Divergent by Veronica Roth. I absolutely love the characters, the action, the romance and the whole concept of a society where the people have split up to different factions. The whole story pulled me in, and whilst Tris is awesome, kick-ass and strong, she's also very flawed, which I think is great. I hate it when characters are so perfect, that they get completely unrealistic.

I can't wait for the third book!

    1. Hello and thank you for commenting! I have to be brave and admit that I have yet to read Divergent! I even have an autographed copy, but alas for one reason or another I have kept putting it off. I will probably wait until it gets closer to the release of the 3rd book and start reading them :)

  7. Oh my where to start, my favorite series is The Morganville Vampires. I adore this series and its made me want to break away and try writing for myself. I love the connection I feel between the characters and I would love to be able to have a fan feel a connection like that to the words I will one day write down for everyone to read. I have not read prodigy yet but my best friend has and she loves it,I can't wait to read it...but anyways...great work on your blog so far it looks amazing and can't wait to read more from you :) Thanks for the giveaway!!

    2. Yes!! I am awaiting fall of night I believe it is called....and ahhh I'm screaming inside I want to know whats gonna happen. My favorite character is deff Myrnin and Claire and Shane I love the love triangle thing going on. Have you read the latest books. Bitter Blood made me cry so much but I was really happy with it too. I think Rachel Caine made a great choice with where the story is going. I really wish this would be made into a movie/show or something. I know the movies are never like the books but i always enjoy both stories.

Yeah my blog is still being worked on, in fact it is never done :)

  8. Going to a book signing must have been very exciting. I still have yet to attend one. Thanks for letting me know about your giveaway and your blog. I am following you via J.N. Cahill.

It's going to be so hard to pick a favorite all-time book...I guess I will go with one of my oldest and most loved favorites--Heaven by V.C. Andrews. I discovered V.C. Andrews when I was beginning high school. I ironically watched a movie based on one of the author's books before even knowing it had been a book. Then I saw my friend with the book and I ended up borrowing it and pretty much devoured all of the author's books as soon as I could borrow or buy them. Anyway, Heaven has always been my favorite because the main character is a very strong young woman and it always gave me hope. No matter what bad things would happen to Heaven, she would endure them without breaking her character, and I admired it very much. I found a lot of solace in it because there were a lot of "family problems" in the book and while my own family problems weren't really anything alike, it still made me feel like I wasn't alone.

Thanks for the chance to enter and for sharing your experience. It was also nice to see what other "favorites" were mentioned.

  9. Congrats on the new blog!

Well I am not going to lie, but I was one those at the Cassandra Clare book signing. I'm still bitter about missing Marie when she was at the Grove last month.

My favorite book series will have to be Harry Potter! It's just a great series, the evolution of the characters that we see from them being kids to grown ups is just amazing. All the obstacles that Harry endures in his lifetime is just heartbreaking. He sticks to it and finally gets a happy ending! It's just a great series that I like re-reading.

If it's a recent read-- Bitterblue by Kristen Cashore or Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry or Daughter of Smoke and bone by Laini Taylor. Thanks again!

  11. Awesome giveaway! Ok let's see favorite book...favorite book...such a hard question but I think my favorite book right now is Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. I just finished it a couple days ago and I love it to bits. I think I love it so much because I laughed a the sarcasm but I also sobbed so much I couldn't even read the pages. Cassandra Clare created the perfect love triangle because it's actually a triangle and not a V like almost every other Young Adult book I've read. It also takes place in the past and connects to another series I love. Plus it has Will Herondale (my favorite fiction guy at the moment). And it has Magnus!

    Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I love to read, and I'm addicted to collecting and reading books. So many books, so little time!! I'm a high school teacher, so I read a lot of YA to stay current with my kids. This series sounds great, but I haven't read it yet. I will definitely be reading these :)

  14. Hello! Nice to meet you and thanks for having this giveaway! I read Legend last year and am eagerly waiting for Prodigy to be released at the library.
My favorite book is definitely The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. If you ever have the chance, you should, without a doubt, read it. It's a young adult fiction novel about a teenage girl trying to find her mom, which sounds quite ordinary, but the author ties everything together in an extraordinary way. Also, her writing is incredible and the words flow beautifully; I found some amazing quotes in the novel. Finally, the message on love, family, and letting go made me cry endlessly towards the end.

  17. Hello! I have to say my favorite book of all time is Tears of a Tiger by Sharon M. Draper. This book will always have a special place in the wild ride of my mind. It was the actual first book I ever read and the one that made me fall in love with books. I started reading when I was in Seventh grade (I am now a sophomore in college), I just picked up the book from the bookshelf my English teacher had in the back of the room. I instantly fell in love with it, the story of a girl and her journey through High School fascinated me. I went sailing through the book in flash and couldn’t put it down. I was so intrigued in this form of watching over a life like it was a movie but as me as the director. Because this book is The One who introduced me into the world of fantasies and magic it is why is my favorite book, as it will always will.

  18. My favorite book would have to be Harry Potter. This book was such a wild experience. The characters were amazingly detailed and I could never look at a single person for months afterward without comparing them to someone in HP! And don't get me started on the food! I've never been more hungry reading a book! Overall, definitely one of the books that have played with all my senses!!

  19. That's awesome that you got to meet her! I love when authors turn out to be sweet and are grateful for their fans. (:

A favorite book?! Oh my goodness...can I pick one?! Well, my favorite stand-alone is "Ico: Castle in the Mist" by Miyuki Miyabe--it's kind of sad, because nobody has heard of it, though. :( But it's brilliant! I might be biased because it's a novelization of my favorite video game, but the story and characters are stunning. It's about a boy who is exiled as a sacrifice to an ancient castle, and he meets a girl he can't communicate with who is also trapped. He helps her through the castle and fights toward freedom, and the dynamic built between them just through hand-holding/guiding is so beautiful. addfghwvnkrthekvhye. I'm going to cry. Also, I'm rambling. Oh my goodness. OKAY. Anyway, congrats on getting to meet Marie, and I hope your signing next week goes well! (:

  20. My favorite book...
Well, that changes frequently. Sometimes it's The Giver by Lois Lowry. I loved reading A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass, too. Pretty much anything by John Green is golden.

My favorite book might actually be The Lorax by Dr. Seuss! I'm studying environmental science in school, and its message really hits home for me. Dr. Seuss is able to use simple, and sometimes made up, vocabulary to convey a powerful message. Damn you, over consumption!

Thanks for sharing you blog with all of us here on the internet, and good luck choosing a winner!

    Best,

  22. Wow, you're so lucky to meet her! :)
My favorite book currently is The Death of Bees by Lisa O'Donnell. It is a blunt and brutal adult novel with YA aspects (because the main characters are aged 15 and 12) and it is incredible. It's full of dark humor and morbid scenes of death and life for two girls whose parents died on Christmas Eve. Instead of feeling grief-stricken, Marnie and Nelly are annoyed they have to deal with burying their parents' bodies and somehow making everyone think they're still alive so they don't have to go to an orphanage. It is a powerful and heartbreaking book that I'm in love with.
Thank you so much for the giveaway! I loved Legend and have been dying to get my hands on the sequel, but my library has a long list of people ahead of me to get it.
Have fun at the next signing!
