My First Trip Abroad

Hello Everyone!
So some of you may know that I am going out of
the states for the first time. As of 11:30pm tonight I will be
leaving the country until January 1st.

This trip is my graduation present from my sister, since as
of December 16th, I graduated nursing school. I still have to
study and take my boards to officially get my license,
but it feels surreal that this portion of my life is now complete.

So I will be spending the next 10 days in

So please excuse the short absence.
But since I have a long trip ahead of me, with NO SCHOOL,
I should have tons of reviews for you guys when I get back

Also don't forget to stop by Monday to see my review of Sunshine and Sun Poisoned by Nikki Rae
and to find out the winners of the giveaway!

So I am challenging myself to read 10 books
With two 12 hour flights I think I can safely cut down half of them :)

Anyways I wish you all a wonderful holiday season! What are your plans for the holidays, what do you plan to read?
I would love to know :)

The Promise of Amazing

Synopsis:

Wren Caswell is average. Ranked in the middle of her class at Sacred Heart, she’s not popular, but not a social misfit. Wren is the quiet, “good” girl who's always done what she's supposed to—only now in her junior year, this passive strategy is backfiring. She wants to change, but doesn’t know how.

Grayson Barrett was the king of St. Gabe’s. Star of the lacrosse team, top of his class, on a fast track to a brilliant future—until he was expelled for being a “term paper pimp.” Now Gray is in a downward spiral and needs to change, but doesn’t know how.

One fateful night their paths cross when Wren, working at her family’s Arthurian-themed catering hall, performs the Heimlich on Gray as he chokes on a cocktail weenie, saving his life literally and figuratively. What follows is the complicated, awkward, hilarious, and tender tale of two teens shedding their pasts, figuring out who they are—and falling in love.

My Review:

Goodreads Rating: 3.34

My Rating: 4.0

First of let me start by thanking Robin Constantine for allowing us to host this blog tour, and for taking all the time and energy to answer all of our questions, and penning guest posts. We truly appreciate all the time she devoted to us.

I really enjoyed this story because my high school days were very similar to Wren's. With the pressure of deciding what colleges to apply to and trying to figure out what you wanted to do with your life. I was also the "quiet," one during my high school days. Boy have things changed hahah.

The Promise of Amazing was a great coming of age story with a mixture of just the right about of romance. There were plenty of comments to make you smile, and moments that made you laugh. Then there were moments that were just so cheesy, but just as good. Honestly I have to admit that I found myself more drawn to Grayson and his story more so than Wren's. I loved seeing how Grayson dealt his disappointing his family, and realizing that regardless of his failures his family did actually love him. I especially loved seeing Grayson interact with his half-siblings. There are some amazing side characters thrown into the mix, with some that you just love to hate.  All in all this was a fun, sweet and quick read that I recommend to others.

Robin Constantine is a born and bred Jersey girl who moved down South so she could wear flip-flops year round. She spends her days dreaming up stories where love conquers all, well, eventually but not without a lot of peril, angst and the occasional kissing scene.

Her YA debut, THE PROMISE OF AMAZING, will be released in 2014 by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.

Thank you to our beloved team for making this event possible.

Cover Reveal - Where you'll find me +Giveaway!

Today Erin Fletcher and Entangled Teen are revealing the cover for WHERE YOU’LL FIND ME, releasing in early 2014! Check out the gorgeous cover, exclusive excerpt, and enter to win an eARC!

On to the reveal!

When Hanley Helton discovers a boy living in her garage, she knows she should kick him out. But Nate is too charming to be dangerous. He just needs a place to get away, which Hanley understands. Her own escape methods—vodka, black hair dye, and pretending the past didn't happen—are more traditional, but who is she to judge?

Nate doesn't tell her why he's in her garage, and she doesn't tell him what she's running from. Soon, Hanley¹s trading her late-night escapades for all-night conversations and stolen kisses. But when Nate¹s recognized as the missing teen from the news, Hanley isn't sure which is worse: that she's harboring a fugitive, or that she's in love with one.

Exclusive Excerpt

Nate looks me over, from my jacket to my favorite pair of jeans, to the shoes that are bonfire-worthy but still cute. My hair, with the help of a straightener, is so silky that my dark bangs fall into my eyes even more than usual. My eye makeup is amped up. Whether all of this is because of the bonfire or because of who I hoped I’d run into before leaving is open for debate. He reaches up and brushes my bangs away from my face. The split-second touch makes me crave more. “You look gorgeous.”

“Thank you.”

“Where are you headed?”

Though staying here in the garage might be a better option, I say, “A bonfire.”

Nate studies me again, but this time it feels like he’s looking for something deeper. “Don’t you ever get tired of sneaking out?”

“Not really,” I say with a shrug.

He tugs on the zipper of my fleece, lowering it slightly and pulling me closer. “What are you running from, Hanley?”

It feels like my secrets are written all over my face, but I say, “Nothing.”

When he smiles, it’s almost sad. “I don’t buy it.”

I lean in, putting both hands on the car behind him, one on either side, trapping him. “You tell me why you’re living in my garage and I’ll tell you what I’m running from.”

He gives a sly smile and doesn’t budge. “Secrets it is.”

“Secrets it is,” I echo. And even though the small space between us is electric and threatening to disappear, I push off the car and step away. “I’ll see you later,” I say as I open the door.

“Hanley,” he says before I can get too far. “Be careful out there, okay?”

I don’t make any promises.

Title: Just Once

Author: Julianna Keys

Release date: October 29th, 2013

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Tour: Irresistible Reads Book Tours

Goodread Rating: 4.29

My Rating: 4.5

Book Description:

Kate Burke is done making bad decisions. Thirty years old and belatedly determined to grow up, the successful travel writer and one-time party girl returns to work at the remote Ponderosa Pines Ranch to reassess her life.

Although her kitchen/cabin staff is lacking and the workload never relents, Kate’s main challenge is Shane Maddox, the ruggedly handsome and doggedly stubborn ranch foreman. Instantly at odds, they battle over everything from ceiling fans to bothersome bats—studiously ignoring the sparks they generate with each confrontation.

They can’t explain their explosive physical chemistry, but after a few frustrated weeks they can’t deny it either. Their solution? Just once. They’ll get past their inconvenient lust and move on.

Kate’s been trying to think with her head instead of her hormones, but is this just another bad decision in a lifetime of careless choices? Has she really changed at all?

Set in the striking and serene hills of southern Colorado, Julianna Keyes’ debut novel offers a sizzling and satisfying tale of unexpected chemistry and the power of second chances. Her characters will get under your skin and into your heart.
Just once may not be enough for you either.

My Review:
Wow, this was such a great story and I am happy to have been introduced to it by Irresistible Reads Book Tours!

Kate is ready to turn her life around. After spending a little too much time partying and making one bad decision after another, she is ready to slow down and find a stable job that does not have her traveling around. She is determined to make a fresh new start as she starts her new job.  In comes Shane, who is the definition of my perfect man (LOL) but someone who is completely different than the men Kate has usually found herself attracted to.

The attraction that develops between Shane and Kate is just pure electrifying and they both can feel it. They try to avoid it, but when enough is enough they decide to give it a go "JUST ONCE' with the hopes that the it will ease the tension between them. But is once ever enough?

This book is filled with a amazing characters with great development! I enjoyed each moment of it and did not want it to end!

About the Author:
Julianna Keyes is a Canadian writer who has lived on both coasts and several places in between. She's been skydiving, bungee jumping and white water rafting, but nothing thrills - or terrifies - her as much as the blank page. She loves Chinese food, foreign languages, baseball and television, not necessarily in that order, and will go to her grave swearing that 'ain't' is not a word. She has volunteered in Zambia, taught English in China, and dreams of seeing pink dolphins in the Amazon. It'll happen.

Synopsis:

Sophie’s life has changed. She’s moved to New York, she’s playing music for new people, and she’s making new friends. Then there’s Myles, and the fact that he is now her boyfriend—and everyone knows it. There are a lot of new things to take in, but Sophie has no problem adjusting.

She’s not exactly normal, living in a half-human, half-vampire world, but she’s finally, truly happy. But some parts of Sophie and Myles’ old life still hide in the dark, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.

Sophie’s having nightmares again, but they aren’t about her; Myles is hiding something that she’s not sure she wants to know.

And one lie will change everything.

No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.

Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.

Nikki Rae is a student and writer who lives in New Jersey. She is an independent author and has appeared numerously on Amazon Best Seller lists. She is the author of The Sunshine Series and concentrates on making her imaginary characters as real as possible. She writes mainly dark, scary, romantic tales, but she’ll try anything once. When she is not writing, reading, or thinking, you can find her spending time with animals, drawing in a quiet corner, or studying people. Closely.

To know more about the Sunshine Series go to its Facebook Page.

I have a lot of favorite books and they’re constantly changing, but the few that have always remained the same have been Neil Gaiman’s Coraline, Anne Rice’s The Tale Of The Body Thief, and Augusten Burroughs’ Running With Scissors.

There are so many things that I love about writing. My favorite parts are when I learn something about myself, or something new about the characters. Even better than that is when I’m in the final stages of editing and the whole thing starts to look more and more as I envisioned it in my head. It’s the most exciting thing.

I don’t really watch TV, but I like to write with it on in the background. My top three are all shows I’ve seen a millions times: Roseanne, The Office, and 30 Rock.

It’s a four-way tie between The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Interview With The Vampire, Juno, and The Exorcist.

My ideal day is any day I get to do something new. It doesn’t have to be drastic. Maybe I drive home using a shortcut, maybe I try a new type of tea, or make a new friend. I’m really shy and I don’t go out of my comfort zone often, so small things are big things in my world.

Don’t make me choose! I won’t. I’m picking three: Circa Survive’s House of Leaves, Amanda Palmer’s Have To Drive, and AFI’s This Time Imperfect.

Does candy count? I really like candy.

My perfect fictional boys are the ones that aren’t perfect at all. I like it when boys in books, TV, and movies have flaws and aren’t just rich, powerful, or all good or all bad. It makes them more real, and that’s what I want with my fiction. Realism.

There’s always room for both :)

I guess the most books I read are paranormal or horror, but I’ll try anything once. What I really like is when an author has interesting characters or voice. I also like books that play with sentence structure and scenes (like Ellen Hopkins, for example), so genre doesn’t always matter.

“Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”—Edgar Allan Poe

I don’t fangirl all that often. The last thing I remember freaking out over was when The Evolution of Mara Dyer came out. Also, when I found out that Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer were engaged. That was quite embarrassing.

I think Franz Kafka and I would be absolute best friends. I’d love to just sit and talk to him about sad depressing things. :)

My little sister, Kelly. She’s an artist, tattoo artist, writer, editor, and kick-ass-er. I don’t know anyone as driven or as creative as she is and she inspires me every day.

That’s so hard because the books center around music a lot. But if I have to pick one song, that I’ve used throughout the entire series, it would have to be Foals’ Spanish Sahara.

Thank you so much for having me! I hope to see you all around the internet! :)

The Sunshine Series is the story of how a person can be broken and then put back together again. It’s about love, and trust, and growth. WIth a few paranormal elements thrown in as well.

My family and I went on vacation when I was about 14 and I got the worst sun poisoning the first day. While I spent the rest of the week in the hotel room, I began to wonder what it would be like if someone were allergic to the sun. After that, the rest of the story slowly started coming to me.

Sophie is a girl who has had a lot of horrible things happen to her, and as a way to cope and be normal, she’s built up these titanium-strength walls to keep people at a distance so she doesn’t get hurt again.

Myles is the guy that comes in and turns everything upside down for Sophie. In good ways, In bad ways. But all in all, he shows her that love exists, and that it can survive.

I always have such a hard time thinking of actors and actresses for my characters because I have such a clear idea of what they look like in my head. I think Emily Browning could be a good Sophie, and as for Myles...Ian Somerhalder has Myles’ eyes, but I can’t find any actor that looks like him enough for me.

Sun Damage will be the last book in The Sunshine Series. There are chapters in Myles’ point of view where we get to see his motives, and there are also some scenes that reveal a lot more about our villain, Michael. This is the book where every secret is revealed. Every piece locks into place. It’s definitely been an emotional rollercoaster for me, and I’ll say this: even I didn’t see some of the stuff coming. Prepare to get your hearts broken and screwed back together a million times.
