Welcome to another of our Fantastic Flying Book Club event. This month we have the wonderful Robin Constantine with her debut novel: The Promise Of Amazing. 

We wanted to share this new YA story with you, and to get the know the author, too. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did with her novel.

Hi Robin! We’re really excited to host this blog tour. We loved The Promise of Amazing and we wanted to share Wren and Grayson’s story with our Book Addicts.

TPofA is a story very close to my heart. For me, it’s a story about believing in a person, and seeing the best in them, even when they don’t see it in themselves. The book begins when Wren saves Grayson’s life and how it changes the both of them as they come together and fall in love. It’s also a book about how our families and friends shape us. Oh, and there’s kissing.

I started scribbling the first lines of TPofA in jury duty! And I actually did have a guidance counselor tell my class that “None of you are going to Harvard”, so that was the starting point. It was always Wren’s story. Originally, it was going to be about a quiet girl who saves the life of a local celebrity and how she changes after being thrust into the spotlight. Then Grayson showed up. I loved the idea of Wren saving someone who might not seem worthy of it and how a moment like that can change a person’s perspective. Some of the elements in the story, like Wren’s school Sacred Heart and The Camelot catering hall are inspired by actual places.

Grayson is tall, dark-haired and has a killer smile but he’s not nearly as confident as he appears. His parent’s break-up and getting kicked out of school hurt him much more than even he realizes. As the story opens he’s kind of coming to grips with getting kicked out of school and figuring out what he’s going to do with his life. He also knows he’s let a lot of people down through his actions, and he hates that, so he is trying to go the straight and narrow route, but of course there are a few snags. And on a purely fun note, he’s also that guy who always knows where the party is. 

Wren is the sort of girl you might not notice at first, but when you do, she’s hard to forget. She’s more comfortable in a ponytail and jeans but can be a complete knockout when she wants to be. She’s quiet, but it’s not because she doesn’t have anything to say. She chooses her words carefully. She’s a fierce friend and loves her family, but is trying to get beyond the role she feels pigeonholed in as the ‘quiet one’. As the story opens, she’s struggling with how her teachers and family perceive her and how she can break out of that role and find her own way. And on a purely fun note, she also loves to get goofy with her best friends Madison and Jazz.

Wren and Grayson are the kind of couple that really compliments each other. Aside from being physically attracted to each other, I think they are both seeking in themselves what they see in each other. Grayson is attracted to Wren because of her calm, kindness and the way she thinks before she speaks. Wren is attracted to Grayson because of his confidence, his desire to be a better person and his ability to make her laugh at herself. They also have a lot of fun together.

Well, that would be lovely! I have such an image in my mind of Wren and Grayson that it was a little difficult figuring out who I would cast because no one quite fits my exact vision!! But for the sake of our interview…hmm…

Steven R. McQueen – I love Steven as Jeremy on TVD, and I think he could bring the right mix of cockiness and vulnerability to Grayson. And of course there’s his swoonability factor.

Anna Sophia Robb – She is so adorable as Carrie Bradshaw on The Carrie Diaries! She can be sweet but strong and definitely fits the bill of someone who can be a knockout!

Wren, Jazz and Grayson appear in it too! It’s been really fun to see the world through Madison’s eyes because she’s so different from Wren.

My Review:
When I found out that there was going to be a 3rd book in the Gabriel series, I knew I had to get my hands on it ASAP and was thrilled to have been able to sign up for the blog tour. Before I started Gabriel's redemption I did a quick re-read of the previous 2 books and was once again in love with the world that the author had created. I was very intrigued to say the least on where the author was going to take the story line as I felt that it ended pretty smoothly in the end of book 2. But when I found out that there was a the talk of pregnancy being thrown into the mix I was sold. It was interesting to see the how far Gabriel and Julia have grown as a couple, but to see the lengths they still have to go. Even though Julia has an amazing life with her husband, she still struggles with the concept many women do today. Do they want to follow their career, or start a family. It was interesting to see not only Gabriel and Julia's story play out, but for us to also see rest of the side character's get a happy ending. I absolutely love the Clark family and loved reading about them and their struggles. And it was also nice to get to read more about Paul and his happily ever after. For those of you who may have started this series yet, I highly suggest it. Especially if you want a story filled with forbidden love mixed in with the beauty or ancient times and unforgettable literature. 

Bio: I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

That morning his father had roused him from a sound sleep. He’d blinked, confused, by the angle of the sunlight. He rarely slept much past eight since he usually had some sort of training or the other.

“Let’s go son. Time for lunch.”

Brandis had dragged himself up, his limbs feeling like they weighed a thousand pounds each. His brain buzzed with a strange sort of energy, his typical state, and not at all welcome considering it normally didn’t hit him until later in the day. The conversation his father began as soon as they were seated at their usual diner did not help.

“So, listen, Brandis. These girls…Katie’s friends from college….”

Brandis sipped his ice water, waiting for his father to finish the thought. His heart pounded, and his face flushed hot with embarrassment.

Jack sighed, as if exasperated that Brandis didn’t pick up the thread on his own, leaving him to carry on with the awkwardness about to ensue. Then he leveled his gaze, his face open, not angry or judgmental. “I think that you may be in for some…I mean, they’re…shit.”

“If you are gonna tell me where babies come from again,” Brandis said, after deciding to ease his father’s obvious distress. He cocked an eyebrow and half a smile. Jack seemed to relax somewhat as Brandis continued. “Don’t bother. I already know.”

He flashed his brightest smile up at the middle-aged woman who stood at their table, coffee pot in hand. She blinked rapidly at him, and at that precise moment, Brandis got his first flash of…something…about his power. Up until now he’d merely been “Brandis the trouble maker, the causer of strife.” Suddenly, he felt strong, amazingly so, stronger than even the man sitting across from him, a taller, older version of himself. His body tingled all over, as he tested the smile out again on the woman, making her slop some coffee out onto the table. His father frowned, but then chuckled as the woman walked away after they gave their orders.

“Son,” he said, leaning back and cradling the coffee mug to his chest. “Your adventure has only just begun.”

“Huh?” Brandis picked up his cup but didn’t drink any. He hated coffee, but had ordered it in a burst of need to be more like Jack. As he sipped the bitter stuff, he was transported back years before when he and his dad would spend every single Saturday morning together, eating breakfast at this very diner. He had adored the man, he remembered distinctly. His chest hurt at the simplicity of their relationship then. He looked away from Jack’s deep blue, knowing gaze.

The subject changed of its own accord, and Brandis let it. Although part of him wanted to ask for advice, a much bigger part would not allow the words past his lips.

They ate, discussing the upcoming football season and Brandis’ part in it. The recruiting company Jack had contracted last year to video his every move would start up with the first game. He’d made varsity again, technically as backup quarterback to a senior boy. Brandis didn’t see this as a setback and had every intention of starting under center by the second or third game.

Finally, when they pushed their empty plates back and sat looking at each other, Brandis felt more comfortable in his father’s presence than he had been in a long time. Jack said, “I am pretty sure at least one of those girls sleeping in the basement is determined to change the status of your virginity for you probably as soon as tonight.”

Brandis choked on the last sip of lukewarm coffee. His face burned, and his body tingled again. “I’m…it’s…uh….” He clutched the napkin in his lap unable to meet his father’s eyes.

“No need to say anything. Let’s just say your mother is an astute reader of female intent. While I was busy admiring your sister’s friend’s ass, she apparently read the girl’s mind or something.” Brandis’ face flushed even hotter.

He resisted the urge to protest, to proclaim his innocence of such things. Because he wanted it back—those mornings between them, father and son, man and boy, not this awkward, man and almost-man bullshit. Because while the thought of one of his sister’s college friends popping his cherry remained a pleasant fantasy, it also made him feel older than he wanted to be right then.

“So, I bought a box of condoms this morning,” Jack went on. “Put some downstairs in the side table drawer and the rest in your room. Use them please.” He sipped the last of his coffee, looked as if he were about to get up, then leaned forward, touching Brandis’ wrist. “Have fun. Don’t be an asshole to women. Let every experience teach you…something. Because you are nothing as a man if you don’t learn from every woman you…love.” Jack looked out the window onto the nearly empty parking lot. Then he turned back, tightened his grip on his son’s arm. “God, you are so…young.” His face fell a moment, then he perked up again, his eyes twinkling. “Okay, so, your mother told me to tell you not to let them corrupt you. But all I’m gonna say is this: always wear protection, no matter what, no matter how much you don’t want to. And don’t let your mom catch you in the act. I’ll handle her otherwise.”

Then he let go, stood and smiled, draping a friendly arm around Brandis’ shoulders as they exited the restaurant.

“You really didn’t tell me you were admiring Katie’s friend’s ass, did you, Dad?”

“No, son. I most certainly did not. You obviously misheard me.” Jack winked as he stood by the passenger’s side of his classic Corvette convertible and tossed the keys to Brandis. “Remember what I told you. Don’t ride my clutch.”

My Review

I started this book one night after getting home from school around 11pm. It wasn't such a great idea, since this book took me on a roller coaster of a ride in emotions. I was so caught up in the emotions of the characters that I could not go to sleep until I finished this book. Jen meets Rylan at a work dinner. Her initial reaction of him is that he handsome but aloof. As the sea of men advertisement embrace her, he stands back and really doesn't make an attempt to approach her. But he can't see to get her off his mind. When he overhears one of his employees discussing her in a not so dignified manner he steps in to protect her honor.

Even though Rylan wants nothing more than to open up her heart to Jen he is haunted by his past and is not ready to open it up to her. But is there something in his past that will startle Jen or will she stick by his side and open up her heart to him? All in all this was a short and sweet book with many good heartfelt moment. I enjoyed reading it and hope to read more from this author in the future.

 My men are so different, yet similar in so many ways.

Their eyes, a similar tint of blue, yet Paul’s smiles at me with carefree abandonment and Stewart’s pierces my heart with its dark intensity.

Their bodies. Paul’s naturally muscular, his arms developed from hours of surfboard paddling, his abs ripped from balancing on a board, his thighs and calves strong from jumping, balancing, and kicking through currents. Stewart’s body, attacked like everything else in his life, with fierce devotion, aggression worked out with miles on a treadmill, weight-lifting, sit-ups, pull-ups, and calisthenics.

Their love. Paul loves me with unconditional warmth, his affection public and obvious, his arms pulling me into his warmth, his mouth littering my body with frequent kisses. Stewart loves me with a tiger’s intensity, his need taking my breath away, his confidence in our relationship strong enough to not be bothered by the presence of another man. He stares into my soul as if he owns it, and shows his love with money, sex, and rare moments of time.

Tonight is one of those rare moments. I have his attention, his cell phone is away, and he is staring at me as if I contain everything needed to make his world whole. I step forward, towards his seated form, the dress hugging my form to perfection. He sits up in the chair, spreading his knees and patting his thigh, indicating where he wants me. I sit sideways on his thigh, my eyes held by his, his hand stealing up and running lightly along my bare back. “You are breathtaking.” His voice gruff, he leans forward and places a light kiss on my neck. “And you smell incredible.”

“Thank you. You clean up pretty well yourself.” And he does. In a suit that no doubt costs more than my dress, he looks every bit the successful executive that he is. Short, orderly hair. Clean-shaved chin. Those intense eyes staring out of a strong face. “Is the car here?”

“It’s downstairs. But it can wait.” He runs a hand up my knee, sliding the material of the cocktail dress up.

I wait, my breath becoming shallow, my concentration focused on the path of his fingers, as they travel higher, taking their time, the tickle of rough skin against soft flesh. He leans over, brushing a quick kiss over my lips and then moves lower, soft kisses making the path down the line of my jaw, whisper soft against my neck, and deepening in touch when they reach my collarbone. His hand caresses my thigh, the brush of his thumb moving higher up my thigh until it is just breaths from my sex. I groan, sliding my hips forward, but his hand stops me, gripping my thigh and holding me still. “Not yet. Let me enjoy you for a moment.”

There is the sound of approaching footsteps, and I open my eyes to see a suited man, our driver, round the corner and stop short when we come into view. His eyes drop respectfully and he speaks softly. “Mr. Brand, I’ll be downstairs with the car when you are ready.”

Stewart mutters something unintelligible, the man taking the cue and leaving, the firm pull of the door behind him leaving us alone. Stewart’s hands push apart my legs, moving the fabric of my dress aside and leaving me bare and open to his eyes. He looks down, examining the exposed skin, his mouth curving into a smile. “No panties?” His eyes flick up to mine.

“They’re in my purse. I figured they would be useless until we got to the event.”

“That,” he says softly, his fingers teasing the edge of my lips, circling the edge of my sex in slow, tantalizing brushes, each touch closer but not yet there, “is why I love you. You know me so well.”

His eyes stare at me, dark pools of lust and want. While Paul and I talk, incessantly, often, about anything and everything, important or not, Stewart and I fuck our way through this relationship, our time often too short for anything more than physical contact.
